Brahea armata (blue fan palm) is a member of the Arecaceae family. This evergreen shrub exhibits a columnar upright growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of heated glasshouse – warm temperate (5 to 10ºc) – can be grown outdoors in summer throughout most of the UK while daytime temperatures are high enough to promote growth.
When fully mature, Brahea armata can reach an ultimate height of Higher than 12 metres and a spread of 4–8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing, west–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
