Camellia japonica 'Doctor King' (camellia 'Doctor King') is a member of the Theaceae family. This evergreen shrub exhibits a bushy, columnar upright growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – average winter (-10 to -5ºc) – hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central / northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plants in pots are more vulnerable.
When fully mature, Camellia japonica 'Doctor King' can reach an ultimate height of 2.5–4 metres and a spread of 1–1.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers north–facing, south–facing, west–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade, partial shade position.
