Silene dioica (Red Campion) (red campion) is a member of the Caryophyllaceae family. This perennial exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its semi evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – very cold winter (-20 to -15ºc) – hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe. Many plants grown in containers will be damaged unless given protection.

When fully mature, Silene dioica (Red Campion) can reach an ultimate height of 0.5–1 metres. It thrives best in chalk, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a partial shade position.
